O QUE A HISTÓRIA NOS CONTA SOBRE AS LÍNGUAS DE SINAIS

Abstract

The history of deaf education and sign language are very intertwined. It seems that this last one would not exist without the first. In discussions about educational philosophies, the deaf and their language become completely invisible. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to highlight reflections and studies on sign languages, and not just on the history of deaf education. For this, the literature review provides an overview of the sign language history based on primary and secondary sources, allowing to recompose important facts, such as the linguistic considerations of deaf researchers. In addition, it expands the ideas about the origin of the signed languages.
