Mercosur’s external relations
Abstract
The purpose of this study is a theoretical and practical analysis of Mercosur’s external relations. The article sets out the problems that the exercise of its international legal identity raises in international law and for the national rights of the member states and makes proposals de lege ferenda for its adequate integration into the international framework. From here, it proceeds to a series of general reflections on Mercosur’s international identity in light of the fact that its character as an international entity has come under debate as the result of the imprecision of its founding treaties. The study concludes with reflections that summarize and assess the state of the debate on the issue.
