Introduction - The objective of this study is to evaluate the contribution of codified nursing support in improving the diabetes control of adolescents with persistent metabolic imbalance. Patients and methods - This randomized controlled trial compared 2 groups of 12-17 year old adolescents with T1D, with HbA1c ≥ 9% and <15%. Group «A» had telephone calls, every 4 weeks by a nurse, alternating with monthly visits supervised medically. Group «B» had consultations every 4 weeks.. Results - We studied 58 adolescents. At the end of the 5-month intervention, there was a decrease of 3.41 points of HbA1c for group A, 2.96 points for group B (p = 0.32);the percentage of patients with an HbA1c level below 7.5% was 62.07% in group A,37.93% in group B (p = 0.06). After the intervention, HbA1c re-ascended for groups A and B. Conclusion - The intensive management, with strong paramedical involvement, of adolescents leads to the improvement of the glycemic control in the medium term, which gradually fades away after the intervention.
