The Portuguese daily press, controlled by the New State dictatorship, played a propagandistic role on the service of Salazar in favor the general Franco’s victory in the Spanish Civil War. By means of a free decision or the Salazarist repression and censorship, the Luso media indoctrinated public opinion against Spanish Second Republic, who was charged of being a pawn of the international communism and with whose government the Salazarist dictatorship cut diplomatic relationships shortly after on the war outbreak. This work deals to describe and analyse what war the Salazarism strategy face the republican Spanish government and its reflection in the main Portuguese newspapers during the first months of the conflicto.
