This article intends to carry out a theoretical reflection on the possible role of interest groups in spaces of discussion and deliberation that make up the social control of the Sistema Único de Assistência Social (SUAS)[1]. To help us in this discussion, we rescued some regulations that deal with the practice of social control in SUAS, placing them in dialogue with bibliographic references that help identify action opportunities by interest groups based on these legal prerogatives. In conclusion, it is possible to suppose that interest groups act directly or indirectly in the social control of SUAS, defending their own causes that can compromise the interests of the broader Brazilian population or even the part of the civil society they claim to represent.
