Bilan des culminations de matière organique pétroligène dans le Crétacé de forages DSDP en Atlantique Nord Evaluation of Petroligenic Organic Matter Peaks in the Cretaceous from Dsdp Drillings in the North Atlantic

Abstract

Le bilan du potentiel pétrolier le long du Crétacé d'un certain nombre de forages du programme DSDP en Atlantique Nord révèle des enrichissements marqués de ce potentiel à partir de l'Aptien et jusqu'au Turonien. Des culminations accompagnent ces enrichissements et se localisent, le plus souvent, au terme de l'intervalle représenté et ce, quelle que soit l'importance des deux hiatus majeurs reconnus dans le domaine d'étude et représentant l'Aptien ou le Barrémien-Aptien pour l'un (H1) et des durées variables allant du Cénomanien à l'ensemble du Crétacé supérieur pour l'autre (H2). De tels enrichissements et leurs culminations consécutives présentent cependant des vicissitudes dans leur distribution géographique : leur absence quasi totale des forages entre Gibraltar et le golfe de Biscaye, des valeurs de potentiel plus importantes dans les puits au large de l'Afrique que dans ceux au large du nord de l'Amérique bien que, dans l'un et l'autre de ces domaines, certains des sites soient dépourvus d'enrichissements notables. Evaluation of the oil potential throughout the Cretaceous sequence in a certain number of DSDP drillings in the North Atlantic reveals marked enrichments of this potential from the Aptian and as for as the Turonian. These enrichments are accompanied by peaks which usually become localized at the end of the interval represented, this being the case whatever the size of the two major gaps identified in the field of study dnd representinq the Aptian or Barremian-Aptian in one instance (H1) and variable durations ranging from the Cenomanian to the whole of the Upper Cretaceous in the other (H2). Enrichments like these and their consecutive peaks do however display vicissitudes in their geographic distribution: virtually total absence in drillings between Gibraltar and the Bay of Biscay, potential values higher in wells off the coast of Africa than in those off North America, though in both these sectors some of the sites have no enrichments worthy of note.
