This paper presents a design methodology for bridgeless continuous input current charge pump power factor correction (PFC) converter. A new fundamental harmonic approximation-based equivalent circuit model is obtained through the Fourier analysis by examining the fundamental behavior of the charge pump. The operating characteristics of the converter are analyzed and the procedure for designing is discussed. To verify the effectiveness of the design method, three simulation circuits under different conditions of operation are designed by the proposed procedure. The characterization of a 55-60 W experimental prototype converter design using the proposed design procedure is presented. Besides, the measured bus voltage is compared with that calculated by the model, and the result shows the good accuracy of the proposed model. The performance of the simulation circuits and the prototype meet the design requirement, showing the validity of the design method.
