This contribution focuses on the widespread trend of public universities in Senegal through the implementation of activities of public utility, offering articulated training to and finally, knowledge production processes. However, this relationship remains unilateral and hierarchical and often leads to a symbolic impoverishment of communities because of its positivist bases. Therefore, the contribution questions the paradigmatic foundations as well as the added value of partnership research approach (compared to other forms of participatory research) in order balance the relationship between universities and communuties in the interaction of knowledge generation. The case study within the scope of the research project of “Action-Research Alliance University-Territories” (ARUT) will provide the basis for analysis with a view to analysing the modalities, conditions and challenges of partnership research.
