Abstract

The article deals with the instrument of collective dismissals as regulated by EU Directive No. 98/59/EC. The main goals of the regulation are described and analysed. Subsequently, the article contains several proposals on how to amend the applicable regulation in light of its announced purpose to enhance protection of employees affected by dismissals, with particular focus on the concept of voluntary redundancies.
