Soil Quality Classification and the Impact of Irrigation and Drainage in the Region of Xuanzhou in Anhui Province
Abstract
【Objective】 The purpose of this paper is to present a method to clarify soil quality and analyze the impact of irrigation and drainage on it. 【Method】 We took the region of Xuanzhou as an example. Sizes and soil quality of agricultural lands at county scale in the region were analyzed using GIS. The soil quality was evaluated using the analytic hierarchy process, Delphi and fuzzy evaluation methods. 【Results】 ① Soil quality in the studied region was divided into nine grades, with the average grading over the whole region being 4.22. Among them, high-yield farmland with grades of 1~3 accounted for 18.18% of the total cultivated land, and was distributed mainly in the north and center of the region. Moderate-yield farmland associated with 4~6 soil grades accounted for 80.55% of the total cultivated land, and was distributed in all counties across the region. Low-yield land associated with 7~9 grade accounted for 1.27% of the total land, found mainly in the south of the region. ② The average soil organic matter content, available phosphorus and potassium in the region were 24.4 g/kg, 19.56 mg/kg and 115 mg/kg, respectively. The main nutrient contents in grading 1~3 soils were higher than those in other soils. ③ Irrigation facility in the north of the region is better than that in the south, while the drainage facility in the high-terrain areas is better than that in the low-terrain areas. Areas with satisfied or fully-satisfied irrigation and drainage systems are associated with soils with grades of 1~6, giving middle-high crop yield, while areas with less-satisfied and unsatisfied irrigation and drainage facilities have low soil quality with grades of 4~9, giving rise to low-moderate crop yield. 【Conclusion】 The average soil quality grading in Xuanzhou District was 4.22, and was affected by irrigation and drainage facilities. Constructing high-standard farmland thus needs to consider improving irrigation and drainage facilities.
