Pupils who have just arrived in France have to learn French in order to facilitate their integration into ordinary classes. A possible training technique involves using video recordings of other standard courses during the language classes. Using real oral discourse raises several issues which must be solved: the decontextualised use of these segments, adapting them to the pupils' language level, and integrating them into the syllabus. Second language training for immigrant pupils as presented here requires a careful analysis of the linguistic and discursive structure of classroom interaction, a choice of self-contained passages and their processing for a definite pedagogical purpose, and finally the construction of specific activities that prepare the pupils for what is shown in the recordings.
