A COMPANHIA DE PERNAMBUCO E PARAÍBA E O FUNCIONAMENTO DO TRÁFICO DE ESCRAVOS EM ANGOLA (1759-1775/80)
Abstract
By analyzing the Pernambuco & Paraíba Company’s books, this article presents estimates about the importations and profitability of the slave trade in Angola, operated by the Company. This case study seeks to develop a hypothesis originally formulated by Joseph Miller that it was the metropolis that financed most of trade in Angola. Thus, we intend to discuss the operation of the slave trade in the region, particularly with regard to financing and transport operations.
