Our streets’ vitality depends on many factors and some can be modified by redesigning them. This article deals with a comparative analysis of the redesign of the Bulevar de la Naturaleza in Madrid –the Eco-bulevar Project– and the use that has been observed and measured on different stretches in this one and the next most socially active street in its surroundings. This study shows the revitalizing capacity of street redesign based on quantitative data, but linking them to qualitative properties. Besides it introduces the concept of “integral street retrofitting”, as a way of transformation and social activation of the street.
