The search for productivity is one of the main objectives of manufacturing companies. In the machining companies, the preparation time directly influences the unproductive time of the process, as is the case with the tool presetting operation. Currently, there are automatic and semi-automatic presetting systems that reduce this preparation time, but most companies use the manual method because they report that this step does not influence the preparation time of the machine. However, research shows that the effect of the manual presetting process does not only interfere with setup time, but also interferes with other factors in the manufacturing process, further compromising unproductive time. Within this context, the work aims to identify the existence of influences that the manual pre--adjustment can cause beyond the unproductive time. The data collection was based on a descriptive study of the field survey type. The results show that the use of the manual method influences other factors in addition to the unproductive time, such as the increase of the cost of production, reliability and safety of the process.
