Tiempo, magia y organización social en la antropología de los primeros evolucionistas
Abstract
Este artículo examina algunos elementos de la antropología evolucionista a la luz del concepto de tiempo. Sostiene que la ambigüedad de las ideas modernas de tiempo, de las que participan la idea de historia, la melancolía, la imaginación de las razas salvajes y el culto de la biografía, es el germen de las tesis evolucionistas; por ende, es el germen de la antropología misma. Inicia este análisis con una somera aproximación a L. H. Morgan, E. B. Tylor y J. G. Frazer y sus trabajos en los campos de la religión y la organización social. Concluye, de forma preliminar, que el evolucionismo, al ubicar a las sociedades no occidentales como distantes en el tiempo, pudo haber sido fuente de un conjunto de estudios sobre el tiempo y otras categorías fundamentales que aún espera sus mejores frutos. ABSTRACT This paper examines some elements of evolutionist anthropology through the concept of time. It argues that the ambiguity of the modern concept of time, in which the concept of history, melancholy, the imagination of savage races and the biography cult are involved, is the source of the evolutionist thesis; therefore, it is the very source of anthropology. This analysis begins with a brief approach to L. H. Morgan, E. B. Tylor and J. G. Frazer and their works in religion and social organization fields. It concludes, in a preliminary way, that evolutionism, by placing the non-occidental societies as very distant in time, may have become a source for a set of studies about time and some other fundamental categories which are still to yield their best results.
