El clarinete bajo como alternativa al violonchelo: una propuesta didáctica para la Suite n.º 1 BWV 1007 de Johann Sebastian Bach
Abstract
The study of Bach’s works in the teaching of the bass clarinet has been very limited to date due to the absence of suitable transcriptions for this instrument. In particular, the performance of Suite No. 1 BWV 1007, although not originally written for it, is very appropriate for teaching, as it allows us to explore and perfect the technical and expressive characteristics of this instrument (virtuosity, flexibility, intonation, and breathing). A rigorous score analysis must tackle its interpretative and pedagogical use, adjusted to the bass clarinet, which can serve as a standardized didactic guide. Based on the analysis of a modern edition of this Suite for cello and on research and comparison with the available versions, the benefits of a didactic transcription that faithfully adjusts to the morphology of the wind instrument are proposed and justified. Useful didactic resources are thus provided, referring to the preferred notation system, the choice of the most appropriate key, the use of the ranges depending on the type of bass clarinet available, and some proposals for improving intonation. It thus offers a novel alternative to the few existing transcriptions, providing bass clarinet players with valuable resources for their training.
