Abstract
A review of the Qypchak-Russian dictionary written by Prof. Oleksandr Garkavets The review concerns the monumental (1800 pages of printed text), encyclopaedic Qypchak-Russian dictionary, which was published by a Ukrainian Turkologist Oleksandr Garkavets in the former capital of Kazakhstan, Almaty in 2010. The dictionary was developed on the basis of numerous texts which were written in the 16th and 17th century by the Polish Armenians, who at that time used the Qypchak language, a representative of the Turkic family of languages, instead of the Armenian language (these people themselves referred to the Qypchak language as tatarcha i.e. “in the Tatar language”).
