An Enigmatic Form in the Title of Russian Tsars
Abstract
The article deals with the spelling of the word обладатель (‘dominator, possessor’), an important component of the title of Russian Tsars (e. g. многихъ земель обладатель or отчичь и дѣдичь наслѣдникъ и обладатель, etc.). This word was written in the title in a special manner, namely with two letters a, as ОБЛААДАТЕЛЬ. It is demonstrated in the article that the form with double a reflects the sacralization of the Tsar and his title. DOI: 10.31168/2305-6754.2020.9.1.6
