Osteoid osteoma of the maxillary sinus
Abstract
Osteoid osteoma is a benign tumor that usually involves the cortex of the long bones, the vertebrae and occasionally the cranial bones. Osteoid osteoma is a lesion mostly occurring in adolescent and young adults especially males. It is characterized by a nidus, a radiolucent nodule with a diameter nearly 0.5-2 cm and a sclerotic region surrounding this nodule. Clinically, it is also characterized by a pain that wakes the patient at night, which is relieved upon the administration of salicylat and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory. In this case report, we discuss a case of osteoid osteoma in the maxillary sinus of a 18-year-old male patient.
