Bibliografía histórica sobre la Santa Cruz de Caravaca (1541-1900)
Abstract
La leyenda e historia de la Vera Cruz de Caravaca se ha transmitido a través de capítulos puntuales que autores como el canónigo Antonio de Honcala o el dominico Alonso Chacón le dedicaron en sus obras respectivas. El primer libro dedicado específicamente a tratar sobre la aparición y milagros de la reliquia de Caravaca se debe al clérigo local Juan de Robles Corbalán, obra de referencia y de consulta obligada. Fue resumida y traducida a varios idiomas durante el siglo XVII, siendo utilizada como principal fuente de inspiración para la edición de toscos Romances que popularizaron la leyenda y milagros entre el público menos instruido. Aún hoy sorprende el elevado número de libros, opúsculos y pliegos publicados entre 1541 y 1900 que aluden o tratan por extenso sobre la conocida Cruz y que, en gran medida, explican su amplia difusión en los territorios católicos de Europa y América. Abstract: The legend and the history of the Vera Cross of Caravaca has been transmitted through the first chapters that the authors like the canon, Antonio de Honcala or the Dominican, Alonso Chacon dedicated to it in their respective works. The first book which is especially dedicated to the apparition and the miracles of the relics of Caravaca is the work of the local clergy, Juan de Robles Corbalan, which is a work of reference and obliged consultancy. It was summarized and translated into several languages in XVII Century, and is being used as the main source of inspiration for the edification of the artless romance that popularized the legend and the miracles among the people of little knowledge. Up to date, we get surprised by the elevated number of books, booklets and sheets published between 1541 and 1900, that allude or indicate widely about the known Cross and widely explains its wide diffusion in the catholic territories of Europe and America.
