This issue of Études britanniques contemporaines stems from the annual SEAC conference organised by CECILLE and the University of Lille in the autumn of 2023. The conference aimed to explore the cardinal points not only as geographical coordinates but also as categories to think with. This issue of Études britanniques contemporaines brings together eight articles on regionality in contemporary British literature. This introduction offers some avenues for exploring the cardinal points, which serve as regulatory benchmarks to find our bearings in the world and which literature seeks to destabilize.
