Human papillomavirus: prevention and diagnosis

Background and Objectives: The prevention of sexually transmitted diseases is important, especially when the disease in question is the human papillomavirus (HPV), which causes high mortality in women worldwide.Contents: A literature review was conducted in databases, such as: Virtual Library databases of Health was held, Lilacs, SciELO, Capes in the search for full articles available in Portuguese and English, published between 1992 and 2015, being located 411 articles in total with the use descriptors: HPV, prevention and control, the diagnosis, being selected 35 items for the manuscript. Conclusion: The importance of health professionals was observed in meeting the carriers of HPV patients, especially in raising awareness for effective treatment, thus interrupting the chain of transmission of the disease, preventing disease progression and consequently the deaths.
