The triumph of Frente Amplio during 2005 in Uruguay has signed important modifications within the traditional national structure of Welfare in the country. The reforms made in the labor market, health, taxation, and particularly in the attention of more vulnerable populations; have evidenced a significant change in the agenda, modifying the institutional and discursive landscape of social policies. The progress in the social protection area faces new challenges, particularly within the institutional framework. This article mentions the main difficulties for the institutional coordination, the need of innovation in different policies and to rethink the redistributive coalitions.
