Portuguese troubadour Joao Garcia de Guilhade attended the court of Afonso X, and was among the troubadours that composed “cantigas” on the “soldadeiras” – women who took part in the troubadour spectacle, and were privileged targets of satirical “cantigas”. This article proposes readings for two cantigas composed by Guilhade: “Elvira Lopez, que mal vos sabedes” (B 1487, V 1099); and “Elvira Lopez, aqui noutro dia” (B 1488, V 1100).
