INTESTINAL OBSTRUCTION CAUSED BY LYPOHYPERPLASIA OF THE ILEOCECAL VALVE (IN SPÀNISH)
Abstract
Introduction: The lypohyperplasia of the ileocecal valve (LHIV) is a rare disease defined as a diffuse and infiltrant proliferation of mature adipose tissue to submucose level. Case report: 67-year-old male patient that attended to the Hospital Universitario del Caribe, Cartagena, Colombia, with symptomatology of acute abdominal pain. The diagnosis of acute abdomen caused by acute appendicitis was done without rejecting the possibility of colonic neoplasm. A mass in cecum was found and a right hemicolectomy, omentectomy and termino-terminal ileotransverse anastomosis were carried out, with good evolution after the surgery. The result of the surgical piece was: lypohyperplasia of the cecal area. Conclusions: The LHIV tends to be asymptomatic but when it measures more than two centimeters, could cause intestinal obstruction pretending inflammatory or malignant diseases. The anatomopathological study allows the diagnosis. Rev.cienc.biomed. 2014;5(2):357-360. KEYWORDS Intestinal neoplasms, Intestines, Ileocecal valve, Acute abdomen.
