Endovascular treatment for chronic mesenteric ischaemia
Abstract
Chronic mesenteric ischaemia (CMI) is a rare condition. Early detection and prompt treatment is important for the prognosis. We present the case of a 45-year-old woman who came with complaints of abdominal pain for 3 months. CT angiography revealed occlusion/stenosis of all the three major abdominal visceral arteries. Superior mesenteric artery (SMA) stenting was done through the transbrachial arterial route; repeat angiogram showed revascularization in all the three major arteries through collaterals. To conclude, revascularization in CMI by the endovascular route (stenting) is presently a preferred modality.
