La manifestation du 13 juin 1849 à Paris, la dernière journée révolutionnaire de la Deuxième République
Abstract
June 13, 1849 was the last revolutionary day experienced by the Second Republic. It is part of the confrontation between the supporters of a democratic and social Republic and those who defend a conservative Republic. It ends with the triumph of the latter, members of a party of the Order which brings together the Legitimists, the Orleanists and the Bonapartists. The Rome affair will crystallize this deep antagonism and amplify it. The June 13 demonstration in the capital marks the left's attempt to vainly transpose the parliamentary struggle into the streets. But the supporters of a democratic and social Republic were defeated and had to face terrible repression from their conservative adversaries who built « the reduced Republic (June 1849-December 1851) » through a series of structural laws on education and universal suffrage.
