Nacionalismos, Modernidades y política
Abstract
This paper is a critical summary of the International Colloquium “Nationalist Experiences in the Postwar Period: Latin America – Europe”, which took place on October 22 and 23 at the Centro Franco-Argentino de Altos Estudios of the University of Buenos Aires, in Buenos Aires City, Argentina. The meeting was organized by researchers from the Centro de Estudios e Investigaciones Laborales (CEIL-PIETTE, CONICET) and from the Approches Historiques des Mondes Contemporaines (AHMOC-EHESS).We will start by making a brief review of the various papers submitted, which were divided into three sessions: “Studies on nationalism”, “Trajectories and organizations in the postwar period”, and “Current nationalisms”. Secondly, the main axes will be analyzed in a cross-cutting way, such as: the conceptualization problem, the tension between the singularity-generality approaches, and the methodological strategies used. Finally, we will end with a critical consideration of the debates held during the colloquium, stressing the importance of the study of nationalism as a plural, complex and heterogeneous phenomenon, under constant transformation and embodied over time in diverse concrete experiences.
