El tratamiento no farmacológico del síndrome demencial en la atención primaria de salud The nonpharmacological treatment of demential syndrome in primary health care
Abstract
La demencia es un acontecimiento vital tan estresante para la familia, que puede hacer que esta pierda su nivel óptimo de funcionamiento y bienestar. El pilar básico del tratamiento de la demencia lo constituyen las medidas no farmacológicas de atención al enfermo y al cuidador principal. El equipo de salud debe estar capacitado para abordar la demencia desde su diagnóstico precoz, hasta el plan de actuación individualizado para cada paciente y cuidador. Desde la fase inicial, atendiendo a la capacidad de comprensión y aceptación del paciente, deberá recibir información gradual acerca de su enfermedad y de los recursos sociales disponibles, en función de sus necesidades y las de su familia, además de garantizarles nuestro apoyo y accesibilidad durante todo el proceso.Dementia is a vital event so stressing for the family that can make it lose its optimal functioning and well-being. The nonpharmacological measures of attention to the patient and the main carer are the basic milestone of the treatment of dementia.The health team should be qualified to approach dementia from its early diagnosis to the individualized plan of action for each patient and carer. Since the initial phase, taking into account the patient's capacity of understanding and acceptance, he should receive gradual information about his disease and about the social resources available for his own needs and for the needs of his family. Our support and accesibility will be also guaranteed during the whole process.
