Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is a devastating squeal of acute rheumatic fever (ARF) in Africa. Recent evidence suggests that T-cell lymphocytes play an important role in the pathogenesis of rheumatic carditis. CD4+ T cells are most likely the ultimate effectors of chronic valve lesions in RHD [1].
