This article presents an initial analysis of the conditions and consequences of indigenous migration towards León, a city located in the State of Guanajuato, in central Mexico. In this qualitative study, we document some of the tensions and challenges that migrants face when attempting to integrate into the city. Although current population movements are part of wider dynamics, the results show that modern socialization processes experienced by young indigenous men and women in large urban areas are far from conforming to an intercultural perspective. The above does not imply that these indigenous young people are passive, on the contrary, we identify situations in which they become active agents in processes of socialization and identification.
