Folk Art Teaching As The Element To Create Local-Wisdom Based Character: A Case Studi On Buto Birowo Kid Dance Group

Character education can be defined as values ​​education, character education, moral education, behavior education, aiming to develop students’ ability of making good and bad decisions, maintaining what is good, and realizing the goodness in daily life wholeheartedly. Through character education, a system of implanting character values occurs, involving the components of knowledge, consciousness or willingness, and action to implement the values, either to God the Only One, Self, fellow, environment, or nation. The development of national character can be carried out through developing and individual’s character. This article discusses the role of folk art as an element of the character development based on local wisdom. This research used a qualitative research method focusing on studying the folk art as the part of local wisdom, in the series and role of character building activities for children and young generation. This article will specifically discuss Buto Birowo, an art living and surviving, even developing vigorously. This art is the pride of the people of Lencoh Hamlet, the one located in Selo Sub District, Boyolali Regency, Central Java Province. Based on the result of research, it can be concluded that folk art plays a strategic role as the part of tools of character building based on local wisdom that has a power to grow consciousness of identity, patriotism, and consciousness of taking care of ancestral values and to ward off sometimes negative impact of foreign culture.
