MODERN LOOK AT THE PROBLEM OF ATRIAL FIBRILLATION AND IT RECURRENCE
Abstract
Atrial fibrillation (AF) – is the most common arrhythmia, it makes one third of all hospital admissions because of all arrhythmia. This article describes main etiological factors, the role of electrical and structural remodeling of the myocardium, contributing to the development and recurrence of AF. A new classification based on duration of AF and the methods of arrhythmia management is presented. Questions of cardioversion and preventive antiarrhythmic therapy are covered in European guidelines on diagnosis and treatment of AF . Basic strategies of AF management are analyzed: rhythm and heart rate control, their benefits and safety to patients.
