This article presents an analysis of the regulatory reform process that took place in the Republic of Argentine in the early 1970s, introducing the concept of “full adoption” in the legal system. It will discuss the arguments and diagnoses that accompanied this reform, as well as the characteristics of the procedures, considering that they constitute an way of inquiring the field of meanings that was prevalent at that time regarding the practices of transference of responsibility over children. This analysis starts from the idea that these legal amendments must be understood in connection with three central points: the institutional and social practices regarding the children, the traditional interpretative schemes regarding the abandonment and salvation of children, and the strengthening of an ideal notion of family based on the nuclear family model.
