The article describes the features of the public activity and journalistic work of Vasile Alexandrescu Urechia, who played an important role in ascention of the romanian national conscience from the second part of XIX century. His activities sustained the idea of Principalities’ Union, the principle of romanian patriotism. Believed the parent of „românism”, Urechia emphasizes the national feeling of Romanian people, that refers to the Romanian etnogenesis, Latin downward, Romanian territorial continuity and permanence. In this context, the writer and political man offers a special attention to bassarabian issues. The article reveals some aspects of Urechia’s approach to the bassarabean thematic, especially the culture and literrature life. Furthemore, there are analyzed his parlamentary speaches covering the issues on Bassarabia.
