Keypoints P. aromaticivorans AR20-38 differentially regulates three main enzymes for the bioconversion of ferulic acid to vanillic acid. ATP binding cassette transporters, major facilitator superfamily transporters and outer membrane vesicles are putative transport routes for catabolic enzymes. Regulated degradation enzymes indicate xenobiotic degradation potential
