Korean species of Coprophilus Latreille (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Oxytelinae) based on morphological and molecular characters

Abstract

The genus Coprophilus Latreille is represented in Korea by Coprophilus (Coprophilus) sibiricus Bernhauer and Coprophilus (Zonyptilus) marginalis (Reitter). They are reported for the first time in South Korea and the Korean Peninsula, respectively. We compared Coprophilus (Zonyptilus) marginalis, recently resurrected from the synonymy, with Coprophilus (Zonyptilus) pennifer Motschulsky. Our morphological and molecular data supported that Coprophilus (Zonyptilus) marginalis and Coprophilus (Zonyptilus) pennifer are different species. A key to Korean Coprophilus species, descriptions, habitus photographs and illustrations of the diagnostic characters are provided.
