Pif Gadget au Québec

Abstract

Pif Gadget is one of the major French comic strip newspapers of the 1970s. Communist press organ, it spread to Eastern Europe but also, in a less known (and less ideologic) way, to Quebec. Based on an analysis of the Quebec digital press, online fan exchanges, and semi-structured interviews with former readers, this article looks back on the transfers of Pif Gadget and his comics to Quebec. It returns in particular to the various revivals of the newspaper's series in Quebec, studies its media implementation strategies, its attempts at local editions, and its reception, in particular on a whole generation of important authors of comics in Quebec.
