This research aimed at analyzing culture as an emancipatory element of the present society in The Kingdom of this World by Alejo Carpentier. This was based on Ricoeur’s hermeneutics when looking for an approach to literary texts from various positions, as to project a reassessment of the text as a cultural, social and historical support. this was also based on mystic analysis method by the Mercia Eliade’s theoretical postulates. The results showed that culture, as a universal force, is not a static set of values and practices. It is rather constantly recreated as people adopt and redefine their values and practices to change reality and exchange ideas.
