Paget disease of bone is a focal osteometabolic disorder with a stronggenetic component characterized by increases in bone turnover affectingone or more bones throughout the skeleton. Paget disease canbe asymptomatic but is frequently associated with bone pain, bonedeformities, pathological fracture, secondary osteoarthritis and deafness.Prevalence seems to be decreasing in some parts of the world.Diagnosis is usually made on the basis of radiological and laboratoryfi ndings. Medical treatment with third generation bisphosphonatessuch as zoledronic acid is considered standard therapy although frequentlyreversal of complications can not be achieved and quality oflife issues are not addressed on routine evaluation of these patients.
