Abstract

(Orosius and the Assassination of Cleitus the Black (Oros. III 18, 8–9)): The description of the murder of Cleitus the Black by Alexander the Great included in Historia Adversus Paganos by Orosius was modeled on Justin’s Epitome. There are significant differences between the two descriptions, even though Justin was the only source for Orosius. Orosius definitely modified the story to agree with the apologetic nature of his work.
