Massive shifts in public relations and enhancing interaction between stakeholders damage the effectiveness of standard coordination models through changing the architecture of business entities’ activity. The paper aims to identify the mechanisms for coordinating stakeholders of the higher education market by clarifying theoretical and methodological approaches to the concept and classification. The methodological basis includes the theories falling within the institutional paradigm. The authors view the higher education market as a network of neoclassical and relational contracts. The theory shifts the focus from the analysis of the market actors to UPRAVLENETS/THE MANAGER 2019. Vol. 10. No. 2 Market Development: A Management Aspect 29 the analysis of the horizontal relationships between them. Performing the comparative analysis, the authors reveal the theoretical and methodological problems, such as lack of a single approach to the concept of coordination mechanisms and criteria for distinguishing them. The fundamental coordination mechanisms underlying the current research are only constructs for creating a contemporary coordination model whose construction process is continuous and dynamic. In science, there is a shift in focus from analyzing the current coordination mechanisms (market, hierarchy and networks) to studying the dynamics of coordination processes and identifying intermediate and brand-new coordination mechanisms. Having evaluated stakeholders’ interaction in the higher education market, the authors found the existence of a wide array of coordination mechanisms, which allowed establishing the hybrid nature of coordination. The most intensive development is typical of network communications that take the form of mutual agreement based on informal norms. The paper systematizes the scientific approaches applied within the research field under review, as well as identifies the mechanisms for coordinating stakeholders of the higher education market.
