Faktor-Faktor Prostodontik yang Perlu Diperhatikan pada Perawatan Pasien Geriatrik Secara Terpadu

Abstract

Tooth loss could aggravate oral function, especially mastication and esthetics. Oral health and oral health care are important in order to maintain proper mastication, digestion, speech, and appearance, not only in young people, but in elderly population as well. Facing such problems in elderly patients, usually dentists would recommend the patient to have complete dentures made before looking closely to the condition of the patient. Failure in prosthodontic treatment for the elderly could happen not only due to improper treatment procedures, but especially due to improper evaluation and preparation of the patient physically as well as psychologically. Physical evaluation should be done comprehensively, not only orally. Several important prosthodontic aspects in the treatment of the elderly will be discussed with the hope that failure will be prevented as far as possible.
