Abstract

Gen 1:1–2:3 is a pericope usually treated as a uniform literary text, entirely assigned to priestly authors (P). As such, it is also combined with the – initially independently existing – document P (so-called Grundschrift-P) and considered as its programming text. Contemporary literary criticism of this text, however, allows us to see many inconsistencies in it and, therefore, it is necessary to look for at least three stages of literary growth.
