This article analyzes Susie Morgenstern's work through the lens of Walter Benjamin's "The Storyteller," attempting to characterize Morgenstern’s modes of "storytelling”: the importance of voice and music in her young adult novels and in her CDs of text and/or song; the porous boundary between the writer and her characters/narrator; the use of farce without failing to tackle often dark, substantive subjects; and the tension explored between secular and sacred.
