Purpose. It is the concept of religious discourse that is in the center of attention of the researcher. The article is devoted to the semantic analysis of binary opposition own – strange in the Bible. The goal of this work is studying the ways of realization of binary opposition own – strange in terms of its semantic peculiarities in religious discourse based on the bible. Methodology. The methodological basis of the study is a set of methods of analysis of dictionary definitions, continuous sampling method, as well as the method of contextual analysis involving consideration of the content of cultural connotation and conditions of its text realization. Results. The author concludes was that the binary opposition own – strange represents a division according to its belonging or not belonging to a particular group and also notionally indicates the areas of own and strange space of the spirit. Practical implications. The results of the research can be applied in theoretical and practical courses of linguistics, cultural linguistics, literature and religious studies, as well as in the research and analysis of other binary oppositions.
