A divulgação científica no Rio de Janeiro: algumas reflexões sobre a década de 1920 Scientific diffusion in Rio de Janeiro: some considerations about the 20s

Abstract

Neste artigo, fazemos um levantamento das atividades de divulgação científica desenvolvidas no Rio de Janeiro, na década de 1920, e discutimos as principais características das mesmas. No período, houve engajamento significativo de cientistas e acadêmicos nessas atividades. Como fio condutor, buscamos responder algumas questões básicas: Quais as principais características da divulgação científica feita na época? Quais os principais atores desse processo de divulgação científica? Como eles se organizaram? Quais os meios e instrumentos que utilizaram? Fizemos também uma análise geral das motivações, dos interesses e das perspectivas filosóficas e políticas da ciência naquela época, que se refletiram no tipo de divulgação científica produzida.In this article, we collate data about the activities aimed at the diffusion of scientific knowledge, which were developed in Rio de Janeiro in the 20s, and we discuss their main characteristics. We also point out the significant involvement of members of the scientific and academic communities in such activities. The main research questions guiding the investigation are concerned with the identification of the main characteristics of scientific diffusion at the time, the main actors in such a process, their form of organization, the research means and instruments used. We also provide a general analysis of the motivations, interests, and the philosophical and political perspectives of science in the 20s, as reflected in the type of scientific diffusion produced at the time.
