Revolutions of change in descriptive cataloging: from AACR to RDA

Abstract

Standard cataloging and creating catalogs are the oldest library activities known today. The age of this activity in the Anglo-American school is estimated at more than 170 years. These standard activities have witnessed many developments that stem from the actual use of their standard tools (such as cataloging rules), meeting the renewed needs of libraries and providing solutions to the increasing problems they face. However, the technological changes that began since the mid-nineties of the last century, specifically with the Internet revolution, have imposed themselves on libraries. This led to questions about the feasibility of cataloging standards in their known form and the suitability of these standards for the advanced technological environment of libraries in their present and future.
