Is agroecology a participatory extension? The case of rural schools in Mexico

In Mexico it is known as Alternative Rural Education (ERA) to a series of theoretical and methodological proposals summarized in the concept of "peasant school". On the other hand, agroecology is promoted with enthusiasm by social organizations and to a lesser extent, but of great importance, by rural development agencies. We ask ourselves, if agroecology is repeating the schemes of agricultural extensionism criticized by Paulo Freire in his work Extension or communication? Or it is a new participatory extensionism.
