Tatar enlightenment and the system of national education in Turkestan (late XIX – early XX centuries)

Abstract

Late 19th – early 20th centuries left a significant mark on the life of the Turkic-Muslim peoples who lived in the territory of the Russian Empire with a wide spread of the enlightenment movement. Simultaneously, Tatar enlighteners conducted a huge historical activity for the development of local education in Turkestan. However, by the beginning of the second decade of the twentieth century, the education of local children by Tatar teachers in the Turkestan region was almost eliminated. In the existing schools, where Tatar teachers worked, only Tatar children were taught.
